Katy Green
8th Grade Humanities
Katy Green is from Oxford, Ohio, home of Miami University, and the best bagel sandwiches on the planet. She attended undergraduate school at Miami University of Ohio, and received a Bachelors of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Women and International Development. Spending time traveling and studying in places like Ghana, Brazil and Antarctica, Katy decided to take her passion for world cultures and social justice and combine them with education and equity in Los Angeles. She received a Masters in Education from Antioch University and spent the past five years teaching and developing a culturally relevant and skills based Humanities curriculum at Wildwood Secondary School. When not planning lessons, Katy can be found hiking, singing, teaching yoga, and cooking some mean stews in the winter and tasty salads in the summer. She is beyond excited to join New LA’s stellar team and is looking forward to a wonderful year.
Patrice Harvey
7th Grade Pre-Algebra & 8th Grade Algebra
Patrice Harvey is a graduate of the University of Southern California. “Fight On! Trojans!!” As an undergraduate, she majored in Education with a concentration in Mathematics. She recently completed her Master’s degree from USC in Teaching and will earn her single subject teaching credential in mathematics. Patrice loves athletics, and she has played softball all her life, including three years in college while attending USC. She currently plays in an adult league and coaches girl’s softball in the City of Carson. In her spare time, she loves to take pictures and she then turns them into scrapbooks! Patrice is in her 3rd year at New LA passing on her enthusiasm for mathematics.
Hallie Krinski
8th Grade Science
Hallie Krinski is a native Angelina who felt her own K–12 education to be lacking in many areas. As a bored teenager who wanted to be challenged by her schooling, she vowed that she would become the kind of teacher she wished she had had. She has been working on this since her first teaching assistant assignment in college and looks forward to continuing this endeavor at New Los Angeles. Hallie’s diverse professional experience includes teaching at the university level in Los Angeles and abroad; teaching a Waldorf inspired curriculum; and working at John Adams Middle School in Santa Monica, where she taught in the science magnet program, and social studies. Hallie holds a B.A. from the Hutchins School of Liberal Studies at Sonoma State University, a M.A. in Geography from USC, a multiple subject credential from Antioch University, L.A., and single subject credentials in science and social studies. When Hallie is not teaching she can be found going out to concerts, riding her bike, walking, hiking, reading, or making food or music with friends.
Paul Mason
7th Grade Pre-Algebra & 8th Grade Algebra
Paul Mason is an experienced middle school math teacher. He spent the first 15 years of his career as an engineer at NASA/JPL and as the chief engineer at the Federal Reserve Bank. He decided to return to teaching, which is his passion. For the last five years, he taught at Long Beach Unified and ICEF Charter Schools. Mr. Mason has a BS degree in Mathematics from Cal State University, Los Angeles, and an MA from the University of Phoenix. He has coached basketball and tennis, and he enjoys bike riding and playing golf.
Tabitha Pang
8th Grade Humanities
Tabitha Pang is a native of Southern California and grew up within a loving, Chinese family in Los Angeles and El Monte. At Occidental College she studied Anthropology and Japanese. After graduation, she spent three years in Japan teaching English with the JET Programme. She developed a great fondness for the Japanese culture and the beauty of the Japanese countryside. When she returned to Los Angeles, she spent two years mentoring youth through the L.A. Bridges After School Program. She acquired her teaching credential and Masters of Education from UCLA. She was a founding English and History teacher at John Liechty Middle School and coach for the Students Run L.A. Program for three years. In her free time, Tabitha loves to spend time with family and friends, run, do Bikram Yoga, try new foods, and travel. Above all, Tabitha loves to write – life slows down and begins to make sense when she has a fresh, empty page and a pen. Her favorite writers are Hermann Hesse, Pico Iyer, Jack Gilbert and Sylvia Plath.
